Phosphoric acid is used to adjust acidity and improve palatability, and is one of the common added phosphorus sources in dry food. It is a highly absorbable inorganic phosphorus. Typical levels are legal for healthy pets, but cats and dogs with chronic kidney disease (CKD) need to control total phosphorus intake and are best on renal or low-phosphorus diets.
