Red 40
An artificial red dye (Allura Red). Cats and dogs do see some colors, though fewer than people, so dyes mainly appeal to owners and add no nutritional benefit. Some studies link it to hyperactivity in children and allergies, and the EU requires a warning label on human foods containing it. Owners who want to avoid unnecessary additives can choose dye-free products.
